ASQA Audit Findings & High Remediation Costs

Solution

Blended (Moodle + Peer Observation)

01

The Challenge

The catalyst for this project was a stark reality check following a recent ASQA audit. We weren't just looking at minor administrative hiccups; we were facing critical performance gaps in attendance monitoring and assessment reporting that put student visa statuses at risk.

The human cost was just as concerning as the compliance risk. Our senior teachers were spending over two hours every single week fixing errors made by new staff. This 'remediation tax' meant new teachers took three to four months to reach proficiency—double our target timeline.

Constraint: Zero budget. Solution had to leverage existing SharePoint and Moodle.
02

The Move

I needed a solution that respected the budget but didn't compromise on rigour. I designed a blended learning architecture, leveraging the existing Moodle and SharePoint infrastructure we already had.

Instead of a one-size-fits-all approach, I introduced a 'Prior Experience Diagnostic.' This allowed teachers with existing ELICOS background to fast-track the theory, while those new to the sector got the foundational support they needed.

I built interactive Moodle simulations to let teachers practice the attendance system safely, and I created standardised 'tick-and-flick' checklists for peer observations to reduce the burden on senior staff.

However, the real shift was behavioural; I wanted to move the team from waiting for errors to happen, to actively self-verifying their work before submission.

03

The Outcome

This project was undertaken as part of my Professional Certificate in Instructional Design. My submission was awarded 'Outstanding'—the highest band.

04

The Reflection

As part of the Design and Develop assessments, we were encouraged to use Articulate Rise, so I grabbed a trial and took the opportunity to learn the tool as I was building the eLearning modules. I've since gone back and experimented further with both Rise and Chameleon Creator, another authoring tool prompted by Instructional Design Australia.
